Medium: Handmade Tile Mosaic

For the past 10 years, I have created handcrafted ceramic art tiles that are inspired by nature – in the shape of birds, flowers, leaves, insects, etc. Each mosaic style art tile is hand-cut from soft, high-fire clay, and is dried, glazed with brilliant colors, and kiln-fired up to 4 times. I use my tiles to create colorful mosaic wall hangings, and put them onto tabletops, outdoor benches, small boxes or other items. All of the wall pieces and outdoor items are mounted onto a light-weight cement board and the grout is sealed so they are durable, even in the harshest outdoor climates. Sometimes I ‘paint’ behind the tiles with different colors of grout to give an unusual effect and I may also include fossils, geodes, stones or glass that I have fused. Look for the small 'hand' on my pieces -- it's my signature tile.
I like to think that each of the mosaics that I create tells a sort of universal, abstract story of a magical world in nature that might exist only in our imagination or be remembered from childhood, fairy tales or dreams. My home phone is 520 546-2345.
