Don Carter was raised in the historic coastal port of San Pedro, California. His aptitude for art became apparent during his childhood when he started sketching and painting waterfront scenes. He continued painting throughout his formative years while entering exhibits and winning awards, including a scholarship to Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles.
Art has always been Don’s major field of education, earning a degree in commercial art. His career in graphic arts began as a technical illustrator where he developed his exceptional skill of creating detailed renderings. In 1976, Don began serious studies in watercolor, attending many classes and workshops. In recent years he has expanded his interest to include bright and dynamic acrylic, and oil mediums.
Mr. Carter’s work has been widely exhibited throughout the United States and he has participated in several group and one-man shows. His paintings have been juried into many national exhibitions where he has won awards and honors, including acceptance to the prestigious C. M. Russell Museum art auction and sale. His paintings, including several commissioned works hang in numerous private collections in the United States and Europe.
Don is a signature member of Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild and an associate member of the National Watercolor Society, Transparent Watercolor Society, and Oil Painters of America.
