Desert Artisans’ Gallery was founded in
1987 by local artist Sarah Rankin who wanted a sales
outlet for the Casa Grande pottery she purchased in
Mexico for resale. She banded together 20 artisans to
form a cooperative gallery housed in the Many Hands
Courtyard at First and Ft Lowell. Two years later,
looking for a more trafficked area, the group relocated
to a space in Campbell Village. Finally, in 1992, the
gallery was moved to it’s present location in the La
Plaza Shoppes complex at 6536 E. Tanque Verde Rd.
Over the years, Desert Artisans has evolved from a
predominantly arts and crafts space to a highly esteemed
fine art gallery. As is the case in cooperative ventures
the membership changes as time passes. We take pride in
the fact that the quality of our artists’ work and the
professionalism of the gallery operation is maintained
at the highest level. As the oldest cooperative gallery
in Tucson we pledge to our public to maintain these high
standards and to continue to grow in both the quality
and the creativeness of our work and of our service.
Our thanks to Tucson and to Tucson’s many wonderful
visitors for their patronage. |
